This Girl Can Swim! Get involved in the Sport England initiative celebrating active women

Story posted on

You may have seen the billboards and adverts celebrating active women who are doing their thing no matter how well they do it? The aim is for all women to feel they can get involved without any fear of judgement.

Have you ever fancied dipping your toe in at your local pool? Is there something holding you back? We may have found the perfect solution with “This Girl Can Swim” Women’s only swimming sessions at your local pools in Wiltshire. The sessions have swim activators on poolside to help those that want it with tips on techniques, or you can just do your own thing.

Friendly and welcoming staff will show you around the changing rooms and pool area if you’re new to the facility. You can take your towel on poolside so you don’t need to bare all (if you’re not comfortable doing so) until you’re ready to swim. Bikinis, swimming costumes and tight fitting t-shirts are all allowed in the pool – so wear whatever you feel most comfortable in. There are complimentary refreshments served after the session which makes the whole experience fun and sociable.

Stephanie Millward, MBE & Team GB Paralympic Swimmer has this to say about the sessions after attending one last week.

“This Girl Can sessions are a social, motivating chance to get back into the swimming pool to help improve confidence in the water and helps to put a smile on your face! Good luck everyone.”

We can’t promise that Stephanie Millward will be at your next session! However if you want to get involved with This Girl Can Swim in Westbury pop along to the pool on Tuesday between 11am-12noon.
