‘Oyez, Oyez, Oyez!’ Town Crier retires with a tour of the town

WESTBURY Town Crier, Sean Price, will ring the town bell for the last time this Friday as he is set to retire after 20 years of service to the local community.

To celebrate the occasion, Sean has set himself a challenge of making 12 cries in one day all around Westbury. Whilst on his 10-hour tour of the town, he hopes to raise money and awareness for Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

Sean said, “I’m really looking forward to it but i’ve definitely set myself a challenge being the most cries I’ve ever done in one day. I wanted to go out with a final cry and I was a bit worried no-one would come, I’d be shouting at myself!  I then thought I would go to where the townsfolk like to gather on a Friday afternoon and who doesn’t like a party?”

The tour will begin at 2.00pm at the Railway Inn and end at 11pm at the Lopes and everyone involved is hoping it will be a great day, full of fun and maybe a few surprises.

Mayor of Westbury, cllr David Bradshaw said, “Sean has attended many functions over this period on behalf of Westbury Town Council and has also brightened up many functions for local charities and organisations. I, on behalf of the town council, would like to thank Sean for his service over this period in which he has always been enthusiastic at all the events he has participated.

“It has been a pleasure to have worked alongside him and he will be greatly missed.”
