Job boost for Westbury, say developers

DEVELOPERSsay that up to 1,500 new jobs could potentially be created for local people, at a proposed new business park in Westbury.

Commercial property developer HPH says that Hawke Ridge Business Park will help attract large-scale employers to the area, and provide more opportunities for businesses to move into larger properties.

The 35-acre site is supported by Wiltshire Council as a ‘strategic employment site’ – a site identified for employment growth. They say that the site could provide up to 600,000 square feet of employment space.

Proposals for the Hawke Ridge Business Park were on display in a public exhibition earlier this month.

The development intends to attract a wide range of businesses, and facilities such as a hotel and small restaurant could also be accommodated.

A new four arm roundabout would be constructed at the intersection of Hawkeridge Road, Link Road, and Mill Lane.

HPH is working on an outline planning application, which will need to be submitted to Wiltshire Council for approval.

However, the proposals have been met with alarm from local residents, who have formed the Hawkeridge Action Group (see front page story).
