WESTBURY Town Council will not be taking any action to reinstate a war memorial in the Market Place.

Cllr Mike Cuthbert-Murray asked the council to open a public consultation on building a war memorial in the market place, where the town’s memorial was originally sited. A memorial was built in front of the Town Hall in the Market Place in the 1920s. In the 1970s it was taken down to make way for parking spaces, and another memorial was put in Edward Street, at the end of the High Street. The town council have voted not to pursue the idea any further, but cllr Cuthbert-Murray says he intends to put in back on the agenda in the future. “I’ve had loads and loads of people saying it’s a fantastic idea,” he said.
