ITV West’s Jon Monie will be helping host Westbury’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations at the beginning of next month.
The presenter, performer, and writer will be hosting an evening of entertainment on Monday 4th June in the Market Place, with a Queen tribute act and Westbury’s very own talent joining him on the stage. The event will be part of a programme of events over the Jubilee weekend, which has been compiled by a dedicated group on Westbury Town Council . They say, “We are hoping the Diamond Jubilee celebrations organised for Westbury will have lasting memories and enjoyed by all. This is a time for family, friends and neighbours to get together and enjoy the various events taking place over the weekend 2nd – 4th June. “There are events for all ages including the children’s party and fancy dress competition, tea dance and our Street Fayre which is always a very popular event and again this year will have a variety of attractions. On the Monday evening we conclude with an open air music concert in the Market Place featuring several performers and ending with a Queen tribute band.” A timetable of events is as follows: Saturday, 2nd June Street Fayre – Westbury Town Centre and All Saints Churchyard, 10 – 4 pm. Fairground rides and inflatables, Side stalls, Climbing tower and water walker, Food and craft stalls, Street entertainers, Exotic animals, Small farm animals, Pony rides Diamond Jubilee Concert – All Saints Church, Westbury. 7 – 10.30 pm Music, film and events from the last 60 years; Refreshments available during the interval. Sunday, 3rd June Outdoor Church Service – Westbury Market Place. 12 noon – 1 pm (to be held in All Saints Church in the event of poor weather) Tea Dance – Paragon Hall, Haynes Road, Westbury. 3 – 5 pm. Free tickets available from Cards Plus, High Street. Monday, 4th June Outdoor Children’s Fancy Dress Party – Westbury Market Place. 2 – 5 pm (to be held in The Laverton in the event of poor weather). Children’s rides and inflatables; Music and DJ; Street entertainers; Pony rides; Small farm animals; Tables and chairs provided, but bring your own food. Children up to 11 years old welcome, younger children must be accompanied by a parent. Outdoor Evening Concert – Westbury Market Place. 7pm – Midnight ‘Westbury’s Got Talent’ Final; Entertainment by Mango Factory (funk jazz band) and The Great Pretender (Queen tribute band). Hosted by ITV West’s Jon Monie Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Beacon – Adjacent to the Westbury White Horse. 10 – 10.30 pm. Westbury’s beacon will be lit along with beacons throughout the British Isles and the Commonwealth.
