Issue 445 – Citizens Advice Bureau opens in Police Station later this October

Story posted on

THE CITIZENS Advice Bureau will be opening a branch in Westbury Police Station in October, for a few hours every week.

Plans have been drawn up for volunteers to hold drop-in sessions every Wednesday, for a four-hour window and provide free information and advice on matters such as legal and money problems.
Currently Westbury residents have to travel to either Warminster or Trowbridge to see an advisor in person.
Although as the White Horse News went to print the date of the first session had not been confirmed, they are expected to start by the end of October.
Sarah Cardy, Citizens Advice Bureau West Wiltshire bureau manager said, ”I think this will be a great facility for the people of Westbury.
“I think it will make a big difference for them to be face-to-face with an advisor in their own town.”
Mayor of Westbury, cllr Sue Ezra, has also backed the plans for a bureau to open in the police station.
She said, “I think it’s wonderful. We have needed some sort of help in Westbury for some time. If people are in some kind of trouble they don’t want to be struggling over to Warminster or Trowbridge to get advice.
“The police station is right in the centre of town and everyone knows where it is. It’s a really good location. I’m hoping we can secure some more funding to safeguard it for the future.”
Citizens Advice Bureaux are registered charities staffed by trained volunteers who can provide independent and confidential advice on a whole range of issues absolutely free.
West Wiltshire Citizens Advice Bureau has just launched a new phone advice line with more staff than previously. You can call 0844 375 2775 between 10.00am – 4.00pm Monday to Friday to speak to an adviser for free confidential advice.
